Empty Zyklon-B canisters

Empty Zyklon-B canisters found on the grounds of the camp after liberation (part of an exhibition at the Auschwitz 1 site). Until 1941, Zyklon-B was used exclusively for disinfection. From late August or early September 1941, Zyklon-B was used first experimentally and then regulary as a means of extermination in Auschwitz. It was delivered to the camp in sealed metal canisters because it evaporated easily and therefore presented a risk of accidental poisoning.
